BURLINGTON â A self-admitted street gang member from Springfield, Mass., who authorities say traveled to Vermont to illegally buy two handguns, was ordered detained Thursday pending trial in federal court on charges of being a convicted felon in possession of firearms.
Tahj McCormick, 25, who said he was part of the âSycamore Street Posse,â is facing charges he paid $700 for two Glock firearms in an undercover operation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in Brattleboro last Friday, officials said.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John M. Conroy, following a two-day hearing, ruled Thursday afternoon that McCormick was both a danger to the community and a risk to flee.

BURLINGTON â A 24-year-old man from Springfield, Mass., who reportedly traveled to Vermont to secretly buy two handguns, has been jailed on federal charges of being a convicted felon in possession of firearms, court records show.
Tahj McCormick, 24, who police say is a member of the âSycamore Street Posse,â a known street gang, was arrested as he took possession of two Glock firearms in an undercover operation in Brattleboro on Friday, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives reported.
McCormick is jailed without bail at the Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vt., pending an expected appearance in U.S. District Court in Burlington on Monday to face the federal felony criminal complaint.
