that s because the state is facing a multimillion-dollar deficit in lottery money. a little background on the hope scholarship, the nation s largest merit-based scholarship program. it provides free tuition to georgia students with a b average who intend an in-state school. it also covers some fees and books. since it started in 1993, the program has awarded $5.7 billion to more than 1.3 million students. cnn talked to one mother about what possible changes could mean for her daughter s future. without the hope scholarship, she would be depending on student loans and starting life after college with debt, and that s just a fact of life for us. so a tough decision facing lawmakers in georgia who are considering how to revamp this program. i m joined by len walker, a republican state representative who chairs the georgia house higher education committee. thank you for being here. glad to be. we didn t know lotteries even run out of money.

you? megyn: and she ll do hundreds of practice tests with the daughter. there s a lot of focus in our cub on, you know country, on, you know, bullying. but there s a lot of extracurricular, sports stuff that is very focused on at school. maybe a little bit more concern about academics and making it more of a priority in if life and having kids believe that they can succeed and that we have high expectation for them is not a terrible thing. megyn: i was not raised at all by parents who were, like, you must succeed. they were like, eh, you ve got to maintain a b average. she would be horrified by my parents. yet i had a natural drive. we did okay. i didn t go to harvard. i woand up all right, you know? megyn: what s the definition of happiness and success? for her it s harvard were you showered with lots of praise if you did something that was just okay.
