can t spend money from mexico. we have to get it from the treasury. it s offensive. how does anyone believe that? look, i think anyone in favor let me finish what i was saying before you criticize it. what i was about to say was, a lot of people would love for mexico to pay for the wall. the majority of the supporters at this point really don t mind our tax dollars going to pay for it. proof of that is the go fund me page which has blown from up a veteran who put it and millions of dollars coming in. people want border security. i would say to hillary and mean this sincerely. democrats and maybe you can lead the way on this. get and talk to them about the things you said you are in favor of. of more personnel at the borderment i would taborder. when he was at georgetown law, he said we needed border
the democrats have little incentive to negotiate on those terms, given that they will take control of the house in less than two weeks now. sarah westwood, thanks so much. appreciate it. one senator is tacalling out th shut down saying it s a political act. listen to what bob corker said earlier today. this is a purposefully contrived fight over at the end of the day, no matter who wins, our borders are still going to be insecure. just a few months ago the president could have received $25 billion in border security by dealing with the dreamers. by the way, most republicans want to deal with the dreamers s issue. we had $25 billion that could have been spent on border security and that s going to be $2 billion. this is a made up fight so that
the president can look like these fighting. even if he wins, our borders are going to be insecure. i want to understand this. you are saying that president trump if he wants that money for the border wall can get it, but he needs to make a deal, but doesn t want to make a deal. he wants a campaign issue. am i hearing you correctly? it has to be that. this is like falling off the table. the democrats easily would support more border funding, border security. they said that. 25 of them came to the floor and voted for something that provided $25 billion worth of border security. in exchange for dealing with the dreamers. and republicans want to deal with the dreamers. let s talk about all of this. joining me right now is ben ferguson and strategist and cnn commendator, hillary rosen. good to see you both. you first. the president didn t get it done in two years.
he is holding out for funding for his border wall and their refusal to fund it. there were calls he demanded $5 billion in funding and the signature campaign promise. he said that money had to go to the construction of a physical barrier along the southern border and can t go to general border security. sources say vice president mike sense offered support for a border security package worth $2.5 billion if it included money for the wall. it s a long way from $5 billion. the offer came in a meeting with chuck schumer. schumer rejected the offer and the talks do still appear to be deadlocked at the moment. the budget director said it could last until the next session of running when house democrats take over. they suggested that nancy pelosi may be limited in her ability on
complex issue, but i will say this. you are not treating it like one. you truly believe we cannot have a wall and somehow fix the problem and will go back to chuck schumer in georgetown law, he said it s impossible to have border security without construction and we need had to that for immigration. it s impossible to do it without having a wall. it s impossible. that are is central to when government might be reopened. already we are hearing from mick mulvaney and others, it is not likely there is going to be the deal over the holiday season, but possibly in january. that s more of a campaign point. we re want a secure border. thanks. up next, treasury secretary steve mnuchin making phone calls trying to calm nervous investors before the start of tomorrow s trading. who is he talking to? what is being said? next.
