Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with RF President Vladimir Putin.
Nikol Pashinyan informed the Russian President about the situation in Syunik Marz following Azeri troops’ subversive infiltration into Armenia’s sovereign territory. Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister told President Putin that yesterday he instructed to formally apply to the Collective Security Treaty Organization to start consultations in accordance with Article 2 of the Collective Security Treaty Procedures.
Vladimir Putin considered the further escalation inadmissible, expressed hope that the situation could be stabilized as shortly as possible and necessary conditions would be provided for implementing the agreements specified in the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020 and January 11, 2021.
Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a telephone conversation with President Emmanuel Macron of the French Republic on the French side’s initiative.
The two leaders discussed the situation in Syunik Marz following Azeri troops’ subversive infiltration into Armenia’s sovereign territory and the steps aimed at defusing tensions.
The French President assured of his support to the authorities and the people of Armenia for achieving a peaceful settlement of the issue. Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed France’s commitment to the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and stressed the need for an immediate withdrawal of Azerbaijani troops from Armenia’s sovereign territory.

The Security Council held an extraordinary sitting, chaired by Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The Council discussed the situation at the border section of Sev Lich in Syunik Marz of Armenia and the steps to take in this connection.
Addressing the meeting, Nikol Pashinyan stated, in part:
“Today’s Security Council sitting is dedicated to the events taking place at the border section close to Sev Lich in Syunik Marz and the surrounding area. Earlier today Azerbaijan’s armed forces crossed the state border of the Republic of Armenia and advanced as far as 3.5 kilometers in that section. In fact, they are trying to surround and siege the Lake.
