Softball s Season Comes To An End With Two Losses To Mississippi State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. The Florida State softball team (54-7) lost 5-0 and 4-3 to Mississippi State (37-25) on the final day of the Tallahassee Regional. Florida State finished the season with 54 wins, becoming the 21st Florida State softball team to win 50 or more games in a season. It is the eighth time a Lonni Alameda coached team has reached 50 wins. FSU’s 49-5 record in the regular season was the highest winning percentage in a regular season in school history (.907). The Seminole also earned their 18th ACC Championship last weekend. In game one the Seminoles recorded only two hits while the Bulldogs recorded five and scored two runs in the third inning and three runs in the sixth inning to win 5-0. Florida State jumped out to an early lead in game two of the day, scoring two runs in the first inning. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. In front of the largest postseason crowd in JoAnne Graf Field history (1,646), the second-seeded Florida State Seminoles (53-5) took down Howard (31-23), 8-0 behind a no-hitter from Danielle Watson. The Seminole’s no-hitter was the 31st under head coach Lonni Alameda and the second this season. It was the second no-hitter that Watson has been a part of at FSU as she was a part of the Seminoles’ no-hitter against Boston College last March. Florida State got on the board early with one run in the first inning. Kaley Mudge led off with a double to left-center. The Noles then proceeded to load the bases with one out. Jahni Kerr then worked a five-pitch walk to score Mudge from third. The Seminoles extended their lead to four runs in the fourth inning after scoring three on just one hit. Florida State Places Six On All-Region Teams

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida State had six student-athletes named to the All-Region Teams. Kathryn Sandercock, Mack Leonard, Sydney Sherrill and Kalei Harding were named to the first team, Kaley Mudge was named to the second team and Michaela Edenfield was named to the third team. Sandercock was named to the All-Region Team for the second straight season. It is her first season on the first team. She is 29-1 this season with a 1.41 ERA. She has pitched 183.2 innings and has recorded 151 strikeouts while holding her opponents to a .191 batting average. Sandercock was named to the All-ACC First Team this season. Leonard is on the All-Region Team for the second straight year as well. She was selected to the All-Mideast Region Second Team last year at Illinois State.
