Despite snowstorms last week postponing the delivery of a shipment of COVID-19 vaccine last week, Sweetwater County Public Health and Castle Rock Medical Center continue to vaccinate residents.
According to Dr. Jean Stachon, Sweetwater County Public Health Officer, said between 25% and one-third of the county’s population having herd immunity, either from contracting COVID-19 or through a vaccination. An exact percentage is unknown because Dr. Stachon said there were likely residents who contracted COVID-19 and did not report the infection.

CHEYENNE According to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), COVID-19 Coronavirus hospitalizations are at 19 today, which is the first time hospitalizations have fallen below 20 since September 28.
On September 28, there was also 19 hospitalizations statewide, according to the WDH hospitalization report. One month ago today on January 22, hospitalizations were at 75. The state’s peak was 247 hospitalizations on November 30, 2020.
Wyoming Medical Center in Casper has the most hospitalizations in the state with eight patients. SageWest Health Care in Lander has the next most with three hospitalizations, and Platte County Memorial Hospital has two hospitalizations.

Among Wyoming residents, there have been 45,746 lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases, 44,619 case recoveries, and 662 deaths since the start of the pandemic. The state currently has 8,154 probable cases and 552 active lab-confirmed cases. There were 609 active cases on Friday.
SWEETWATER COUNTY Since December, roughly 7,000 Sweetwater County residents have received the COVID-19 vaccine and Sweetwater County Public Health officials are now waiting to find out how many doses it will receive in March.
During an informational COVID-19 meeting with local officials, industry personnel and media representatives, Sweetwater County Public Health Officer Dr. Jean Stachon said between those who have tested positive for the virus and those who have received the vaccine, Sweetwater County has about a 25 percent herd immunity. However her estimates do not include those who had COVID-19 and didn’t get tested.
Sweetwater County Public Health and Castle Rock Medical Center are continuing to distribute the vaccine as fast as they can. These are not the only two groups that can give vaccines in the county. Walmart is receiving vaccine from the federal government, Stachon said. Like public health, Walmart must follow the phasing criteria when distributing the vaccine.
CHEYENNE – According to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH), the number of COVID-19 Coronavirus hospitalizations in Wyoming are at 98 this afternoon. On Friday, hospitalizations were at 108, according the WDH’s hospitalization report.
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center has the most hospitalizations with 24, and Wyoming Medical Center has the second highest in the state with 18. Campbell County Memorial Hospital has eight COVID-19 hospitalizations and Power Valley Healthcare has six.
Wyoming has 2,039 active cases, which is up from 1,516 active cases on Friday. Among Wyoming residents, there have been 40,554 lab-confirmed cases, 38,515 case recoveries, and 489 deaths since the start of the pandemic. There are currently 6,841 probable cases.
