POTSDAM â State Sen. Joseph A. Griffo, R-Rome, presented New York State Senate Commendation Awards to three exemplary St. Lawrence County women Tuesday afternoon at the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce.
Those honored include SUNY Potsdam President Kristin G. Esterberg, Director of the Potsdam Snack Pack Program Laurell Brault and Dana O. McGuire, former St. Lawrence County Public Health director.
Sen. Griffo said the individuals honored âdeserve to be recognized for the exceptional work that they do in their communities and throughout the region.â
He added that âeach honoree has shown remarkable commitment and dedication to making St. Lawrence County and the north country a better place for all.â
NORWOOD â The Norwood Village Green Concert Series will present the North Countryâs gift to the world of Bluegrass, The Gibson Brothers on July 1. The concert begins at 7 p.m. There is no set charge but there is a âpass the bucketâ.
The Gibson Brothers return to their roots in bluegrass with this performance after their fling and adventure with their country-soul breakout Mockingbird.
The celebrated bluegrass duo â named back-to-back Entertainers of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association in 2012 and 2013 â played the Nashville game two decades ago, while in their early 20s, and were offered a major label deal, only to be told at the last minute that they were too âretroâ for modern country music. Today, such characterizations, along with their authenticity, set them apart in the bluegrass and country genres.
