WARREN Automobile dealers in the Mahoning Valley posted their second consecutive month of growth in March from the previous year, when the viral outbreak stunted what was setting up to be a promising year for sales.
Dealerships reported selling 6,002 cars last month, a 34 percent increase from March 2020, halfway through which restrictions to slow the spread of the virus caused consumers to stay at home rather than bargain on lots.
In March 2020, dealers in the region had sold 4,458 vehicles.
The latest data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association also shows sales are up 5.6 percent in the first quarter of the year to 14,483. The rebound in March helped dealers push ahead of last year’s pace after lackluster sales in January and February a two-month stretch that saw sales fall 8.5 percent from 2020.

WARREN Automobile dealers in the Mahoning Valley performed well in February, posting a gain of 3.7 percent from the previous year after a slow start to 2021.
The latest data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association shows new car sales last month led the way for the increase, rising 10.5 percent, enough to overcome a 3.9 percent decline in used vehicle sales.
Still, the industry lags from numbers it achieved last year.
Overall sales remain 8.5 percent off the pace set in the first two months of 2020, before the viral outbreak hampered the industry. The new and used vehicle segments are down for the two-month, period, too 2.2 percent in new and 15.4 percent in used, according to the association.

WARREN Automobile sales last month in the Mahoning Valley were off 7.1 percent from a year ago, a fitting, but unwelcome end to 2020 for dealers still trying to come back from down sales brought on the viral outbreak.
There were 4,357 deliveries in December, off 336 compared to December 2019, according to the latest report from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association, which tracks sales in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties.
For the year, dealers sold 54,873 vehicles to buyers in the three-county region. That marks a 7.2 percent decline from 2019, when they posted 59,155 sales, according to the dealers’ association.
New vehicle sales in December fell 5.2 percent, from 2,674 last year to 2,533. For the year, sales in the segment were down 11.6 percent to 29,126 from 32,981 in 2019.
