ISS names interim directors for UNM Bookstores and Residence Life & Student Housing

The University of New Mexico s Institutional Support Services has named Lisa Walden interim director of UNM Bookstores and Megan Chibanga interim director of Residence Life & Student Housing - after long-time Lobos Carrie Mitchell and Wayne Sullivan announced they d be retiring at the end of January. Lisa Walden Walden will oversee all aspects of the UNM Bookstores on main and north campuses. Walden’s 16-year career at UNM began as the general book manager. Then, she became the operations manager for books and supply. Since 2013, Walden s been the division manager of retail and marketing. Throughout her time at UNM Bookstores, Walden has served on multiple boards and committees for national and regional industry organizations. She s most recently served as chair of the marketing committee for the National Association of College Stores and as secretary for the Rocky Mountain Skyline College Bookstore Association.

(PHOTO: VALERIA PIZARRO) NASSAU, BAHAMAS There are glimmers of hope for the critically endangered Nassau grouper, a species which despite seasonal closures and size restrictions continue to experience declines throughout The Bahamas and the Caribbean, according to the Perry Institute of Marine Science (PIMS). Dedicated protection and conservation efforts have led to positive changes at some breeding sites also called fish spawning aggregations (FSAs). But Dr Krista Sherman, senior scientist at PIMS, noted that the popular fish’s fate will be decided by taking action.

It is the best combined group I have worked with in my career. They are ready to reach a new level.  - Carrie Mitchell, UNM Bookstores director Carrie Mitchell “Back then we supported about 50 book events on campus,” Mitchell said. “I got the opportunity to meet so many wonderful authors like David Sedaris, Isabel Allende and Tony Hillerman.” Throughout her 19-year career at UNM, Mitchell served as associate director and interim director before officially becoming the UNM Bookstores’ Director in 2015. For the last 6 years, Mitchell has led the UNM Bookstores team in its mission to support the success of students, faculty, staff and administration.
