Librarians lead affordability conversations with professors

Gettysburg College librarians are spearheading efforts to lower out-of-pocket course materials costs for learners by organizing faculty workshops and student surveys. Affordability in higher education remains a great concern for students, particularly when it comes to required course materials. Librarians at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania are broadening efforts to make stakeholders aware of the effects of high textbook prices on students as well as affordable and free options in course material. As a result of their work, 104 course sections at the college in 2023 had zero course material costs, saving students $300,000.
