Swatara Township’s new police vehicle can go down stairs and into the woods Today 6:30 AM Facebook Share The Swatara Township Police Department added a new vehicle that will allow them to go where patrol cars can’t. The new electric motorcycle, known as a “zero bike,” is designed for off-road work, able to conquer trails, fields, concrete steps, and curbs. It’s also an environmentally-friendly vehicle that runs quietly with no exhaust and is cheaper to operate than gas-powered bikes. The department is among the first police agencies in the Commonwealth to use an electric bike, which was purchased last month for $16,000. The only other known agency to use electric motorcycles is the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
