New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today made ‘Health and Well Being’ the first pillar of Union Budget in the Covid era. She proposed the introduction of the Aatmanirbhar health programme with a total outlay of Rs 64,180 cr over the next six years.
The amount would be in addition to the National Health Mission. Overall, the budget for health and well-being would be around Rs. 2 lakh crore.
The Narendra Modi government on Monday announced the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ with an outlay of Rs 2.87 lakh crore for 4,378 urban local bodies. Presenting the Union Budget for 2021-22, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman further said that the ‘Swachh Bharat 2.0’ will be implemented with an outlay of Rs 1,41,678 crore over a period of five years. In order to boost manufacturing in India, the Finance Minister also announced a production linked incentive (PLI) scheme with an outlay of Rs 1.97 lakh crore for 5 years starting this fiscal.

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday announced a new Centre-sponsored scheme with an outlay of Rs 64,180 crore to boost healthcare infrastructure across the country amid ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Tabling the Union Budget 2021-22, she said the Prime Minister Atmanirbhar Swasthya Bharat Yojana will develop the capacity for primary, secondary, and tertiary care health systems in the country. Sitharaman said that the main interventions under the scheme will support over 17,000 rural and 11,000 urban wellness centres. Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Monday hailed the budget proposals concerning the health sector and health and well-being was on the top of the six prominent pillars of Atmnanirbhar Bharat outlined in Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman s speech. The Finance Minister spoke of six prominent pillars, with the topmost pillar being health and well being, he said.
