Swampscott lands $80K grant for town pier s rehabilitation

Swampscott landed an $80,000 grant from the Massachusetts Seaport Economic Council to fund initial design and engineering for the rehabilitation and redevelopment of the Swampscott Pier at Fisherman s Beach.
The Swampscott Harbor and Waterfront Plan (also financed with a 2016 grant from the council) identifies the rehabilitation of the town pier as an urgent and vital coastal-resilience and economic-development project. The $80,000 grant coupled with a $20,000 commitment will cover the project’s phase 1.

Papers to run in 2021Swampscott election now available
For the spring 2021 municipal election, Swampscott residents can pull nomination papers to run for town-officer positions and Town Meeting seats.
Eight town-officer positions and at least 108 Town Meeting seats are up for grabs in the Tuesday, April 27 municipal election.
Due to the COVID pandemic, Swampscott Town Hall, 22 Monument Ave., is operating by appointment-only until further notice. Residents must make arrangements with Swampscott Town Clerk Susan Duplin s office either by calling 781.596.4167 or by emailing sduplin@swampscottma.gov to pick up nomination papers

Nearly 170 people joined a virtual court hearing for Ernst “Shimmy” Jean-Jacques, the Black Lives Matter protester arrested at a rally in Swampscott and charged with hitting an elderly Trump supporter.
Jean-Jacques’ supporters hoped the case would be thrown out, but it was continued until March 29.
“We’re extremely disappointed that the decision to drop the charges was not made today,” said Swampscott Keiko Zoll, one of dozens of residents supporting Jean-Jacques.
A civil rights activist honored by the Red Sox, Jean-Jacques joined BLM supporters at a Trump rally in December when Linda Greenberg, 80, admitted throwing water at him claiming he was dancing too close to her.
