The local Latino community is mourning the loss of a longtime mural honoring their contributions. FOX 26 s Chelsea Edwards shares their concerns over being blotted out from Houston buildings.
HOUSTON - The local Latino community is mourning the loss of a longtime mural honoring their contributions.
The washateria at 2216 Airline Dr. looks like another whitewashed business in the Houston Heights, but not long ago one of its walls displayed a colorful mural painted in the early 90s by two students from what was then Reagan High School.

Twenty-one pupils circled 85-year-old Gloria Lampley-Simmons like ripples in a pond.
Sitting in chairs spaced 6 feet apart, each student mimicked the yoga instructor as she tilted her head, rolled her shoulders and clasped her palms together as if in prayer.
“Just do what you can,” she said softly, as the sound of tinkling piano keys flowed from a speaker. “It’s no competition. Close your eyes, relax and focus.”
Lithe and limber, Simmons hosts free yoga sessions at the Ella Austin Community Center gym on North Pine. In addition to 10:30 a.m. chair yoga classes Mondays and Wednesdays, she hosts mat yoga on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
