Racist flyers promoting Sale of Slaves found in Texas neighborhood

By Olafimihan Oshin - 04/20/21 12:41 PM EDT   Residents in Aledo, Texas, on Monday discovered racist flyers that promoted the Great Sale of Slaves one week after school officials disciplined some students who were promoting a slave trade of Black classmates on social media. The Dallas Morning News reported that Aledo school district officials said a group of ninth grade students were disciplined for creating a Snapchat group called Slave Trade in which they spoke about buying Black students.  School officials did not specify how the students were disciplined, the Morning News reported. AISD moves to strongly recommend, but not require face coverings

3 hrs ago Aledo ISD will now strongly recommend — but not require — face coverings after a 6-1 vote at Thursday’s special board of trustees meeting. “I think when the governor made his announcement to lift masks, this board and district operated in the same manner that we were not just going to jump because somebody said jump — we understood over the last year things had changed over and over and over,” AISD Board Secretary Forrest Collins said. After monitoring other districts and their own numbers as well as getting teachers vaccinated, board members said they felt it was time to lift the mask requirement for AISD.

A Group Of White Students In Texas Cyberbullied Their Black Classmates

Eddie Burnett, president of the Parker County NAACP, told the Star-Telegram he learned about the situation Sunday and plans to bring it up at a school board meeting set for April 19. The school district said the students were disciplined for cyberbullying and their actions but did not specify what the discipline was. “There is no room for racism or hatred in the Aledo ISD, period,” Bohn said in the statement. “Using inappropriate, offensive and racially charged language and conduct is completely unacceptable and is prohibited by district policy.” The cyberbullying incident comes as former police officer Derek Chauvin sits on trial for the death of George Floyd. Less than 15 miles away from where that trial is being held, Daunte Wright was shot and killed last weekend by an officer who allegedly meant to use her taser and instead pulled out her gun and shot Wright.
