Human rights activist and writer Harsh Mander will deliver a lecture on ‘The pandemic lockdown: the poor and India s moral centre’ at the Archdiocesan Pastoral Centre in Mylapore on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The book
Locking Down The Poor: The Pandemic and India s Moral Centre, authored by Mr. Mander, will be released by the director of The Hindu Publishing Group N. Ram during the same event, which is being organised by the Constitution Protection Forum.

Collector and District Election Officer P. Sri Venkada Priya on Wednesday warned against transporting the general public in freight vehicles to public meetings and campaigns.
Stern action would be initiated through the Transport Department and the police against the owner of the freight vehicle and its driver for violation. The licence of the drive would be suspended. The vehicle would be seized and handed over to the nearest police station.
Passenger vehicles with permits alone should be used for bringing the general public for such meetings and campaigns, the Collector said in a press release.

The BJP on Wednesday named the candidates for three remaining constituencies for the Assembly poll in Tamil Nadu on April 6.
The party has named Dr. C. Nagesh Kumar for the Thali constituency, Bhojarajan for Udhagamandalam and R. Jayaseelan for the Vilavancode constituency.
The BJP had earlier released a list of 17 candidates for the poll, for the 20 constituencies allotted to it by the AIADMK.

At least 70 students suffered from gastroenteritis
Telangana Junior Doctors Association (TJUDA) Osmania Medical College students submitted a representation to Osmania General Hospital’s superintendent B Nagender on Wednesday requesting him to admit the college students who suffered from gastroenteritis. The hospitals superintendent said that beds were arranged for the students.
The junior doctors said that at least 70 students suffered from the condition and they were admitted to Gandhi Hospital and Fever Hospital. Officials said that the OMC students were not admitted at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) as sufficient beds were not available there.
TJUDAs stated in the representation that it was painful to know OGH was facing difficulty in serving its own students.
