In a move likely to trigger a fresh face-off between the government and the judiciary, the Centre is set to push legislation that will exclude the Chief Justice of India from the process to appoint the country's top election officers.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday said that people manning the Election Commission of India should not be "yes man" of the government but "independent who can act independently" even if it comes to taking on the Prime Minister.

The media is powerful and communicating what happens in court. Not only our judgements, but raising of questions, answers and dialogues is a concern for citizens. Media not reporting observations is far-fetched, the Supreme Court told the Election Commission.
