Well the capitol certainly has a commanding presence here in austin. It is at the top of the hill. Capitol square, it is over 22 acres of park light grounds. It has this beautiful renaissance revival style with a massive red granite. It is very easy to see it from any advantage point within downtown austin. We do have a round dome. Not unlike the nations capitol and we are topped by the god he is of liberty, the beautiful statue that graces our tip top of the capitol dome. Texans are very proud of the fact that the Texas Capitol is taller than the national capitol. When the first capitol on capitol was complete in 1863 it wasnt very tall and not popular and they made plans for a grander capitol for texas and with the plans they quickly realized they couldnt afford the kind of massive structure they had in mind.
