The Court said there can be multiple reasons for a marriage proposal not materialising but that cannot attract the offence of cheating unless there is evidence to prove that there was an intention to cheat.
"The role of a homemaker is as important as that of a family member whose income is tangible as a source of livelihood for the family," the Supreme Court said.
