Marine police discovered numerous jerry cans of petrol in an empty pondohan (huts erected on water) in the Laut Bulipatuid waters, near here, on Friday.
Semporna Marine Police Operation Base Commanding Officer DSP Mohammad Ismail said the operation was prompted by public tip-off.
He said the petrol was likely kept in the premises before being smuggled to the Philippines. The petrol and a boat were confiscated and taken to the marine operations base here for further action under the Supply Control Act 1961.
The seized items were worth RM2,050. In this regard, Mohammad advised the public, particularly the maritime community, to contact the Sabah Marine Region Four via WhatsApp at 013-9391197 with any information

TAWAU: A 49-year-old man was fined RM100,000 or a year’s jail for having 3,400 litres of petrol without a permit.
Aldam Bandog, 49, pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud, to the charge against him.
Aldam was found illegally having the petrol at 11pm on Nov 6, 2019 at the Qiah Enterprise premises in Kg Kuala Bibang, Semporna.

The offence, under Section 21(1) of the Supply Control Act 1961, carries a fine of up to RM1 million or a jail term of up to three years, or both, on conviction.
Aldam who was detained by the Marine police in Semporna, had paid the fine.

Tazlan and Sanyo pleaded guilty and were fined a total of RM150,000 for possessing petrol without permission.
TAWAU: Two foreigners were fined a total of RM150,000 by the Session Court here on Monday for possessing controlled item petrol illegally.
Talzan Tigasan, 34, and Sanyo Naldo, 32, pleaded guilty before Session Court Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud for possessing 775 litres of petrol and 175 litres in their respective boats between 1.45am and 2am at the waters off Pulau Boheyan, Semporna on Jan 4, this year.
Talzan was fined RM100,000 or two years in jail and six months in jail for possessing 775 litres of petrol in an unregistered speed boat without permission of Malaysia Supply Controller.
