County supervisors hope to give young people suffering a mental health crisis help right here in Loudoun, rather than sending them away for help, with a multi-departmental proposal to establish a new 12-bed Crisis Stabilization Center.
Director of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services Margaret Graham said her department’s number one need for youth is a stabilization unit for kids. Currently, children who need that service must be sent to other facilities around the state. The county already owns a suitable property, Graham said; with funding added to the next county budget during the Board of Supervisors meeting March 11, the department would issue a Request for Proposals to operate the facility, as well as hire a contract manager.
FRONT ROYAL â Council members have voted 4-0 in favor of a motion to approve a change in the fiscal 2021 budget to reflect that the town received $88,109 from Warren County for funds awarded by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development COVID-10 Municipal Utility Relief Program. The town plans to distribute the money to eligible delinquent utility accounts.
The motion also calls for the Town Council to authorize the town manager to execute an agreement with Warren County for the use of the funds.
Finance Director B.J. Wilson said the town has approximately $545,000 in unpaid utility accounts. Accounts that are at least 30 days delinquent are eligible for the new funding, though priority is given to those that are 60 days past due, Wilson explained. Not all eligible accounts have received previous relief funds, he added.
