Highland Base bills itself as an all-year-round “extreme paradise” in the remote highlands of central Iceland, an uninhabitable alpine wilderness formerly off-limits in winter
expedition in two super jeeps. we tried to drive up to the volcano but we had to turn around because there was really bad weather and one of our trucks sort of, fell into a crevasse and all sorts of problems. we were pretty lucky to get down alive. soon after the weather cleared up and we, flew up, convinced helicopter pilot to take me up and my crew up, to the glacier and land right beside the crater. we got some amazing footage. jon: how do you know, when something like this is happening, volcanoes are pretty unpredictable. how do you know you re not going to wind up buried in ash like somebody at pompeii or something? well, we of course take some precautions. the wind was blowing pretty strongly from the north and pushing this ash cloud towards southeast, and it was heading over europe. but, so we knew we were pretty safe flying up and, going on the west side of it. and northern side of it. so, we took that sort of
