Reporter the Santa Cruz County Sheriffs Office say they believe he was forced into a white suv bmw belonging to his girlfriend which left the scene. A deceased body was found nearby but Officials Say that person has not been identified. A lot of moving parts right now. Detectives are working tirelessly, they have been since we got that call at 3 00 this morning. Reporter sheriffs deputies spent the afternoon securing the second cri to continue their investigation. For now they say its likely that the 50yearold kidnapping victim was targeted. Anyone with information on the case is aed to call the Sheriffs Office. Its pretty bizarre that a serious crime like this would happen around here. Morning, everyone. The committee will come to order. Were here to examine the deferred maintenance needs of the public Land Management agencies. This is a topic i care about. I know each of you certainly, the folks on this committee, have expressed concern. Not just coming into this hearing today, but, really, over the years. When we consider deferred maintenance, we most commonly think of the 12 billion maintenance backlog accrued by the National Park service. We consider that here in the committee at great length and it rightfully continues to attract a great deal of national attention. But somehow and sometimes overlooked in this conversation are the deferred maintenance needs of the other federal Land Management agencies, including the Forest Service, the bureau of Land Management and fish and Wildlife Service. Combined with the park service, these four agencies face a deferred maintenance backlog totalling 19. 4 billion. Thats worthy of repeating. Within these four agencies that g

I wouldnt be surprised if that number perhaps goes up even higher. If left unchecked there will be impacts in our Outdoor Economy, there will be impacts to our gateway communities like gardner, like cook city and like others. Thankfully congress is working together and taking action again with this bipartisan restore our parks act, and im grateful Ranking Member on the subcommittee angus king and i and the rest of the committee are working in a truly bipartisan fashion to put legislation forward that would bring a solution to this problem.
