Ghaziabad: It took an SOS to chief minister Yogi Adityanath from a housing society that has been in the grip of a Covid outbreak since mid-April, and subsequent media attention, for the health department in Ghaziabad to react to the crisis.
The health department said on Wednesday it would set up screening camps and initiate cluster containment measures at Amrapali Village in Indirapuram, whose RWA had appealed for help on Tuesday, saying over 300 families had at least one Covid infection and there were critical patients who were neither getting help with hospitalisation, nor with treatment. The RWA also claimed there were nine deaths in the society in a month.

GHAZIABAD/NOIDA: Private centres and hospitals that were inoculating people above 45 years have stopped administering shots since May 1 after the state government discontinued supplying vials to the facilities in both Noida and Ghaziabad.
Sources in the health department said that private centres have been asked to procure vaccines on their own, as they are unlikely to get supply from the state government any time soon.
“The vaccines provided by the state government are now only for government centres. We are getting 8,000-9,000 doses every few days,” an official said. With private centres not vaccinating people, only government facilities are administering shots to people above 45 years.

GHAZIABAD: The health department has asked private Covid hospitals to not ask attendants of patients to arrange for Remdesivir injections, instead write to it to procure the drug. Health officials said that they have a quota of 199 doses per day for government hospitals, besides a separate allocation for private hospitals and that is enough to deal with critical patients daily.
Officiating chief medical officer Dr Sunil Tyagi said, “The health department has sufficient amounts of Remdesivir injections. We have asked hospitals to not allocate six doses to a patient at one go while denying injections to other patients. Instead, they should give injections to every patient and then seek the next dose from us the next day. The existing practice was causing scarcity of the vaccine.”
