Pulau Burung landfill fire: 10 schools within 10km of blaze ordered closed for three days

GEORGE TOWN: Ten schools located within a 10km radius of the Pulau Burung landfill on the mainland of Penang were ordered to close from Wednesday (Jan 19) to Friday (Jan 21) following a fire at the landfill that broke out last Wednesday (Jan 12).

Published on: Monday, March 01, 2021 By: FMT Text Size: PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has detected seven new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said today. In a statement, Noor Hisham said five were related to the workplace, and one each linked to the community and high-risk group. Three clusters were detected in Johor, two in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Kelantan. ADVERTISEMENT Clusters that recorded the highest spike in cases today are the Jalan Kempas Tiga (334), Industri Sungai Gadut (128) and Tembok Tapah (80). The seven new clusters are: Selangor - Desa Empat – a workplace cluster in Kuala Selangor. The first few cases tested positive on Feb 24 after a targeted screening of employees at a supermarket in Desa Coalfields, Sungai Buloh. A total of 28 people have been screened with 18 found positive.
