trump s end game which is to punish his enemies to save himself. meanwhile, kimberly, we watched and listened to republicans. it would seem as if trying to find their message on how to best respond to these questions about this impeachment inquiry, both the washington post, politico reporting that many of these republicans are upset that there s not apparently a war room at the white house yet to help deal with this. we saw kevin mccarthy on 60 minutes on sunday night, a number of republicans on the sunday morning shows. do you see any signs of that republican firewall in the senate starting to crack? i don t think it was fully formed in the first place on the ukraine question. i don t think that firewall ever fully existed. you have a small number of people including congressman jordan and others going on television who were simply amplifying this conspiracy theory about joe biden s son, but even they aren t really defending what the president
welcome back, everybody, i m yasmin vossoughian alongside ayman mohyeldin. the bottom of the hour, president trump planned and canceled a meeting with the taliban and now facing bipartisan criticism from the meeting, almost no one knew about. nbc news correspondent hans nichols has more on this. reporter: america s preparing to inflict more pain on the taliban. they fear the taliban conditions have been worsening and they re about to get worse. reporter: america s top diplomat on all five major sunday morning shows, defending trump s plan to host the taliban, and the afghan government, at camp david, just days before the 9/11 anniversary. it was a useful effort to try and get all of those parties in one place, so that we could have serious conversations about how to reduce america s risk. the president dramatically called off the meeting after the
discussions, because he was worried about the negotiations. he was told by folks like senator lindsey graham and national security advisor john bolton that there was too much trust being put in the taliban throughout this process. that s according to a source familiar with the matter. now, of course, they have put pause on what was going to be this meeting and potential continuation of u.s./taliban talks. and we do know that the u.s. felt pretty good about some of the conversations they were having with the taliban over the past month. two of those things that secretary pompeo highlighted today when he did a round of interviews on the sunday morning shows was the fact that the taliban had agreed to reduce violence in afghanistan, at least in part. we don t know exactly the commitment that they were making there. he also said that the taliban had agreed to break with al qaeda. now, when kd aboasked about tru the taliban, secretary pompeo
separations at the border were horrifying, and now we re just numb. we re trying to have feelings but it s breaking us. and in exactly the ways ana describes, things that used to shatter us, now we re talking about 22 accusers, and none of the sunday morning shows bothered to talk about this. nobody addressed it on the sunday morning shows except for here at msnbc when joy reid did. and so i think the extent to which, look, donald trump isn t interesting. he says the same eight things over and over again in response to everything. he s not the problem. we re the problem. he s not going to change, but if we re changing, if we re finding ourselves falling asleep or numb to this or engaging in what ana s describing as trash of another victim, even though her story is so perfectly, perfectly in line with the stories we ve heard before and what donald trump himself said he does.
and the idea that in much the same way that a year ago family separations at the border were horrifying, and now we re just numb. we re trying to have feelings but it s breaking us. and in exactly the ways ana describes, things that used to shatter us, now we re talking about 22 accusers, and none of the sunday morning shows bothered to talk about this. nobody addressed it on the sunday morning shows except for here at msnbc when joy reid did. and so i think the extent to which, look, donald trump isn t interesting. he says the same eight things over and over again in response to everything. he s not the problem. we re the problem. he s not going to change, but if we re changing, if we re finding ourselves falling asleep or numb to this or engaging in what ana s describing as trash of another victim, even though her story is so perfectly, perfectly in line with the stories we ve heard before and what donald trump himself said he does. if we re unable to react, that s the thing that sca
