While the vote is only symbolic, it highlights the continuing political fallout and mistrust of city officials following the January closure of DaVinci's Eatery and the subsequent staff and policy decisions.
A rift between members of the City Council continued this week, with councilors previously criticized for unethical behavior accusing Mayor Carl Sheline of forcing out a member of the Planning Board.
The resolution was brought forward after two councilors previously drafted a resolution condemning optional diversity programs for staff at Lewiston schools.
The resolution states, "Lewiston Public Schools has one of the most diverse student bodies in the state of Maine and the lived experiences of all our students are equally valuable," and "as a City Council we must acknowledge, respect and learn from the lived experiences of all our constituents."
