A Wichita man who investigators say attacked a woman at Cheney Reservoir last week and then shot her young child as she attempted to drive away was charged with a dozen felony counts, including six counts of attempted murder.
During the harrowing event that began in Wichita the morning of July 19, the woman told law enforcement, her estranged boyfriend attempted to stab her, drown her, set her on fire and then shoot at her.
The suspect, Kamden Joe Campos, 22, showed up at the home of the victim s mother, in Wichita, where the victim was staying after the two had split up some 1½ weeks earlier.
A Wichita man was arrested Monday afternoon in Reno County on suspicion of attempted murder and kidnapping in connection with a domestic violence incident that resulted in the shooting of a 2-year-old child.
According to a release from the Reno County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect, identified as Kamden Joe Campos, was involved in the dispute with the woman and brought her to a dead-end road near Yoder Road and Sun City Road at Cheney Lake.
There, authorities said, Campos took the woman to the edge of the water “with intent to harm her,” but he was momentarily distracted, and the woman was able to jump in the car and flee the scene.
