You re trying to figure out what altitude, what route will keep you away from the main rain which is what the radar is seeing but of course you also have turbulence, you can have lightning and hail. all of those things have brought down air liners. one other thing, i would add is if this aircraft did not break up, people speculate that if it broke up in flight there would be a lot of debris and i would not despite that but if they were able to put this aircraft down, there may not be a large debut field presumably, the search aircraft and vessels would be able to locate the intact air craft. but we don t know at this point obviously if it broke up in flight which happened in the air alger thing in july or if it had some kind of mechanical failure like a double engine flame out. remember sullenberger sucked up
