Branch-Hillsdale-St. Joseph Community Health Agency said Monday the region is experiencing an increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases and variant spread similar to the rest of Michigan.
The health agency is following state health guidance on reinstating a standard 14-day quarantine for close contacts of COVID-19 cases. The guidance will remove the option of a 10-day quarantine for nonvariant cases.
Due to increased cases, there also may be a delay in contacting someone who tests positive for the virus or has been in close contact to someone who has COVID-19, health officials said.
“If you receive a positive COVID-19 test result, isolate for a minimum of 10 days from the start of your symptom(s) or your positive test date if you didn’t have symptoms,” health officials said in a statement. “Notify your close contacts that they may have been exposed and encourage them to quarantine for 14 days from their last date of contact with you. St. Joseph County United Way exceeded its 2020 fundraising goal, officials announced this week.
Executive director Kelly Hostetler said the goal for last year was set at $1.01 million, and the final donation tally was $1.1 million after the annual campaign closed Jan. 31.
The leading donor from the business sector was Morgan Olson, which gave just over $171,000, Hostetler said. Other top business or organization donors were TH Plastics, Burr Oak Tool, American Axle, Kadant Johnson, the city of Sturgis, Sturgis Public Schools, Oak Press Solutions, Sturgis Hospital and Meijer.
During the campaign, there were 158 “leadership givers, totaling about $379,000, or 34% of the fundraising campaign. Leadership giving is a recognition program for individuals who donate $1,000 or more per year to St. Joseph County United Way, Hostetler said.
