Australia is implementing new rules that prevent international students from enrolling in two courses concurrently during the first six months of their main course. The change is aimed at cracking down on education providers that exploit the concurrent enrollment policy to encourage students to switch institutions.
The Australian government plans to ban education agents who are paid to recruit students from their current institutions, as part of efforts to address issues within the international education sector. The move is in response to a review led by Christine Nixon and aims to restore integrity and safeguard student welfare.
In a bid to streamline incoming students, Australia has also announced an increase to the financial capacity requirement for international students. From 1 October 2023, student visa applicants will need to show evidence of AU$24,505 in savings.
