Eighteen debutantes made their debut to society as the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Delta Omega Omega Chapter hosted the 53nd annual Debutante Cotillion at the Pine Bluff Country Club.
Commencement will be held in the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.
Katie Ruscitti has been named valedictorian, and Abigail Ankorm was selected salutatorian.
Ruscitti is the daughter of Scott and Karen Ruscitti of Mather. She is president of the Student Council Class of 2021, the National Honor Society, and the Spanish Club. Katie is captain of the academic team, and a member of SADD and Yearbook. She has lettered all four years in academics, and holds a 4.5 GPA. Katie is also an avid member and volunteer of the St. Matthias Catholic Church. She plans to attend Waynesburg University in the fall to major in biology/pre-medicine, with the goal of becoming a pediatrician.
OCONTO - Five Oconto County students were selected as 2021 recipients of $10,000 Herb Kohl Student Excellence Scholarships.
Excellence Scholarship, Fellowship and Leadership Award recipients are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders, and representatives of education-related associations and the program’s co-sponsors: The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools, regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESA), the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators, and the Wisconsin Homeschool Parents Association.

Derek Hanson of Gillett High School. Hanson, a state Cross Country medalist and a Wisconsin All-State Athlete, will be attending Minnesota State University Moorehead, where he’ll major in biology-health and medical sciences. He plans to become a physician specializing in sports medicine
