Lockdown 1” started well, exercise-wise. Everyone in my household set lofty goals. My 20-year-old daughter – home from university – downloaded the Couch to 5K app and started running in the spring sun. My 19-year-old, furloughed from her gap-year job, spent mornings practising keepy-uppies in the garden. (She intended to trial for her university football team in autumn and was determined to keep fit.) My 14-year-old daughter’s motivation was more dubious – images of washboard stomachs on social media. She found some “six-pack abs” routines and, once a day, took my exercise mat to her room to wriggle about on the floor. I also did a couple of online routines a day and my husband, missing his cycle commute, set off on early-morning bike rides along the Thames.
