Giant crane in Manitowoc nearly done, Gov Tony Evers praises project

MANITOWOC - Gov. Tony Evers was on hand Thursday to praise completion of a giant crane manufactured in the city that will soon make a voyage through the Great Lakes and down the Atlantic Ocean to a coastal United States Navy station. The project was made possible with the help of $3.75 million in grant money from the state Department of Transportation’s Harbor Assistance Program. Improvements allowed Konecranes and Broadwind Heavy Fabrications to assemble, test and transfer cranes that can lift 140-ton loads for the Navy. More such contracts are expected to come for the next decade, Broadwind CEO Eric Blashford said.

Manitowoc Coffee is moving after 14 years at Eighth Street location

MANITOWOC - Manitowoc Coffee is moving from its long-time Eighth Street location to a larger space within the Union Square complex in the River North District. The new store, at York and Seventh streets, will allow the newly named Manitowoc Coffee & Manitowoc Coffee Roasters to accommodate onsite coffee roasting in a special space where customers can view the process, according to a news release. A restaurant kitchen at the new location means owners Peter and Teri Stemper can expand their current sandwich menu to offer full breakfast and lunch menus, including omelets, crepes, pancakes and more. “My dream has been to open a full kitchen,” Teri Stemper said.
