A total of 750 doses of vaccine were administered in Buena Vista County last week, serving people primarily in Phase 1B including those age 65 and up and individuals considered Tier 1 priority.
Of those 750 vaccines, 678 people started their vaccination series and 72 completed them. BV Public Health continues to receive 300 prime doses allocated from the state per week to divide among vaccine providers in the county. Last week HyVee received 200 doses from the federal allocation.
When we vaccinate people, it is completely heartwarming to hear people tell you their why for getting vaccinated and what becoming vaccinated means to them, BV Public Health Administrator Julie Sather said.

Two Storm Lake High School teachers have become STEM Innovator ® certified, giving them the tools and knowledge to effectively infuse innovation and entrepreneurship in their classrooms.
Through the certification, teachers Leah Rekow and Will Swanson are more equipped than ever to engage students in solving authentic, community-driven and real-world problems by working in teams and collaborating with community partners. Along the way, students explore science, technology, engineering and math careers and gain skills to become college and career ready.
In fall 2020, Rekow and Swanson taught the STEM Innovator ® curriculum to their newcomer English language learner student scientists. They tackled the problem of mask wearing in the community, culminating in pitches to stakeholders that enabled students to build on their language skills.
