Flood alerts have been issued across Cumbria. As a yellow weather warning for rain – issued by the Met Office – remains in place today (February 23) and tomorrow, flood alerts and warnings have been issued across the county. Flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected and immediate action is required, have been issued for Keswick Campsite and the River Greta at Keswick. A total of six flood alerts have also been put in place, at Rivers Caldew and Petteril, near Carlisle; Rivers Greta, St Johns Beck and Bassenthwaite Lake near Keswick; Upper River Derwent, Stonethwaite Beck and Derwent Water at Keswick; Rivers Lowther and Eamont in east Cumbria; Rivers Brathay, Rothay and Winster near Windermere; and Rivers Duddon, Crake and Mill Beck in the south.

Snow and ice warning issued for Cumbria A snow and ice warning has been issued from 4pm today until 10.30am tomorrow. The Met Office says snow and ice may cause travel disruption. Showers will continue at times across many areas. It said: “These will bring a cover of snow in places. 1-3cm could accumulate at low levels, mostly across Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England but as much as 5-10cm of additional snow may accumulate at higher levels of these areas. “Clear skies between showers will also bring the threat of ice.” People should expect icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, increasing the likelihood of accidents and injuries.

EYE witnesses described seeing blue lights just after midnight as firefighters worked to rescue a property from flooding. Carlisle West Fire Station received the call at 10.45pm on Tuesday after rising water levels threatened the electrics at a home in the Court Yard in Moorhouse, a village to the west of the city. A spokesman for the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service said the water, which was a number of inches deep, was pumped into a nearby field.
