Benjamin Schlossberg’s New York-based real estate investment and development company Shelbourne Global Solutions has had the biggest impact on downtown Hartford’s commercial real estate market over the past eight-plus years.
Schlossberg’s firm since 2014 has bought hundreds of millions of dollars in real estate downtown including major class A office towers becoming the center city’s most dominant landlord.

When a top executive resigns without explanation, rumors begin to fly at most companies.
But in the weeks following Marcus Lanznar’s resignation from Hartford-based healthcare technology firm CareCentrix, the water-cooler rumors took on a particularly urgent tone. Lanznar, formerly associate vice president at CareCentrix for new strategies and products, had gone to work for what the company considered a direct competitor, Signify Health, which has its principal executive office in Norwalk.
Lanznar left CareCentrix on Nov. 6, 2020, declining to detail his future plans to his bosses. CareCentrix filed a lawsuit a month later, in the federal district court in Delaware, alleging the former VP violated numerous non-compete agreements and shared confidential trade secrets with a competitor.
At State House Square, one of downtown Hartford’s major Class A office properties, David Jakubowski keeps a close eye on parking garage traffic reports, eager to see concrete signs of greater employee activity as COVID-19 vaccination rates rise.
However, Jakubowski, who manages the three-building property on behalf of its owners, has observed only a slight increase over the past few months. Inside, there’s still just a sliver of normal employee activity levels.
“We were hoping at this point we might have 25% of the normal population back to work,” Jakubowski said. “I see a few more people I haven’t seen in the last year, maybe one or two days a week.”
