Council accepts committee report on water, sewer rates

GREENVILLE Greenville City Council on Tuesday unanimously accepted a committee report revising a plan to raise water and sewer rates.
On April 1, the city’s Utilities Committee met to discuss rate hikes for water and sewer service. The committee recommended percentage hikes to 20 percent in September 2021 and 10 percent in March 2022, for both water and sewer. Each subsequent year for three years would see 20-percent increases in September and 10 percent increases in March. Following this, rates for each utility would increase 5 percent yearly unless revised by council.

GREENVILLE Greenville Mayor Steve Willman signed a proclamation on Friday, April 2 dedicating the week of April 5 through 9 as “We are the Majority Week,” in Greenville. The proclamation encourages all citizens to join together in learning more about “the importance of living a positive, healthy lifestyle for a vibrant, safe, and secure community.”
A number of students from the Greenville branch of “We are the Majority” were in attendance for the signing. Students of all ages were able to meet the mayor and share their ideas for how they are working to influence their peers to stay drug, tobacco, and alcohol free.
Council tables water, sewer rate hike measure

A proposed series of water and sewer rate increases will be considered again March 16, after the ordinance was tabled Tuesday night by Greenville City Council.

GREENVILLE Debate will continue as Greenville City Council tabled a rate increase on water and sewer services during council’s meeting Tuesday night.
The proposed ordinance calls for water rates to increase 50 percent effective May 1, 2021, and an additional 18 percent Nov. 1, 2021. Sewer rates would increase 25 percent May 1, and 10 percent more on Nov. 1. The legislation would also have the city switch to monthly utilities billing, effective May 1. The ordinance has now received three readings.
