Voices of Los Alamos (VOLA) is hosting a virtual talk 6:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, March 1.
Steve Tobin will discuss “Climate Change – Gliding Over the Basics to Enable a Focus on Important Subtleties.”
The community is invited to attend this talk and the Zoom link will be available Sunday.
Tobin has spent his professional career working on a range of nuclear related fields from fusion energy, fission safeguards and radiation damage. In this talk/discussion, he will address a lifelong passion of researching human impact on our world’s climate.
Los Alamos County Emergency Manager Updates Council On COVID Vaccination Status

The COVID-19 situation in Los Alamos is beginning to improve and County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson reported during the Jan. 26 regular council meeting on efforts underway to administer vaccines to the local community.
Regarding vaccinations already administered, Simpson said Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) provided 407 vaccines to staff to date and expected to provide an additional 100 vaccines last week. Additionally, she reported that the number of onsite workers at LANL was at 35 percent.
Los Alamos Medical Center has inoculated 420 individuals and expected to vaccinate 60 more last week. Simpson said the vaccine supply of vaccinations to the hospital had been delayed but was expected to arrive Jan. 27.

UPDATE 12.120PM: LISMORE has been declared a natural disaster following the flash flooding event yesterday. Prime Minister Scott Morrison and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian visited Lismore today to view flood damage. Deputy Mayor Neil Marks said it was terrific to see the Australian and NSW Government take swift action and the declaration opens the way for Lismore City Council to receive significant funding under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA). He said the severe weather in recent days has resulted in major damage to Lismore s road network and city infrastructure that is expected to exceed $15 million. Subscriber only PRIME Minister Scott Morrison urged Australians to get involved with local emergency services when he visited the State Emergency Service headquarters in Goonellabah on Thursday morning. Mr Morrison was accompanied by NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Minister Police and Emergency Services, David Elliott, senior emergency services personnel and local politicians as he attended a briefing at the SES Northern Rivers HQ. Mr Morrison was in town to view flood damage and declared the Northern Rivers a natural disaster area due to the havoc caused by severe storms, heavy rainfall and flooding since last Friday Surrounded by SES volunteers, firefighters and police officers, when asked if he would encourage people to join their local emergency services organisation such as the SES, Mr Morison said yes .
