Rhode Islanders are skeptical that state leaders will spend the coming windfall of federal pandemic aid well and would be happiest to see it used on grants to small businesses and enhanced school programs, according to a poll released Wednesday by Bryant University s Hassenfeld Institute.
In the telephone poll of 400 Rhode Island voters, 48% of respondents said they do not trust elected officials in Rhode Island to spend more than $2 billion from the American Rescue Plan wisely. (The Rescue Plan passed by Congress earlier this year is set to deliver $1.78 billion in unrestricted aid to Rhode Island, $1.1 billion of that to state government.)
