And if we keep faith with the character of our paem, theres nothing we cannot accomplish in our next century. We have the best state legislature in america, and together weve made indiana the fiscal envy of the country we balanced budgets, funded priorities you can maintain strong reserves and still we were able to pass the largest state tax cut
First, members of the task force introduce themselves and talk about their expectations. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, and thank you for attending the first public hearing and listening session on the president s task force on 21st Century Policing. My name is ronald davis. Im the director of the department of justices Community Organization policing services, also known as the cops office and im serving as the executive director for the task force. On december 1st president obama announced his intent to form the president s task force on 21st Century Policing with the idea of coming up with concrete recommendations to build a gap in the trust between Law Enforcement and the communities they serve. While the recommendations were to build trust, the president also made it clear to do so in a manner that includes our historic reduction in crime and enhanced Public Safety. When he signed the executive order, the president identified two coe shares to serve in this task force. To my
Service providers, with all of us working together accomplishing more than the best of us working alone. As we seek to move from demonstration the legislation, we cannot forget separation. After the doors of opportunity are opened for access, we must make sure that we have the skills to walk through it. Unfortunately, many of very many of our young people are not prepared and that is on us. As we renew access to equity, it equals a better america. Access plus equity equals a more perfect union. As we look out at the fights that have taken place, it was always the younger people who helped to leave lead the fight in the future. They led the fights in the past. It should be no different today. When you take the young people and ask the question . What is wrong with the youth of today . Just look at
Jordan and lebanon than inside of syria. You would see an implosion. Massive malnutrition rates, mortality rates through the roof. Most of the deaths now unfortunately are because of the war. We would probably see in terms of social indicators a much larger humanitarian catastrophe without aid. And i might add, obviously if possible we want to get our assistance to people in their homes so they dont have to flee. They need to be able to flee if they feel they have to. But it is better to get it there and then that reduces the strain on the surrounding countries. And as you mentioned, jordan is a critical partner for us. The same with lebanon, we are concerned about their stability in those countries, that is critical. And frankly, terrorism. A young man growing up, he cant feed his family, he hasnt got a job, hes going to be much more open to the lure if you will, of people asking him to do bad things. Thank you very much.
