Council welcomes new members; considers joint dispatch, new radio agreement Stephenville Empire-Tribune The Stephenville City Council welcomed two new members during a special meeting held Tuesday to canvass the votes from the May 1 general election. LeAnn Durfey was sworn in to serve in Place 1 and Daron Trussell was sworn in to serve in Place 3. Both were given the oath of office by City Secretary Staci King. I look forward to being part of the city council and helping make Stephenville an even better place than it already is, Durfey said. I m excited to be working with the city council and I m ready to get started, Trussell said.

Stephenville Rotary makes donation to city for Collins Street Trailhead Special to the Empire-Tribune Moumin Quazi, two-time president of the Stephenville Rotary Club, made a presentation to the Stephenville City Council at its regular meeting on Tuesday about its last few years’ donations totaling $9,000 to the city, for the Collins Street Trailhead of the Bosque River Trail. Following is the speech Quazi presented: Dear Mayor and Councilors: For some historical context, in the fall of 2018 the City began creating a master plan for an inclusive space the brought together our Bosque River Trail, beautiful live oaks, and one of the most scenic parts of the City to create an escape. The preliminary plan created an environment for all, from pollinator and sensory gardens to a play scape fully inclusive to people of all abilities. No new cases of COVID-19; center plans to shut down in June E-T staff report Erath County saw no new cases of COVID-19, but one additional death attributed to the virus this week, according to a report released Friday by county emergency management officials.  Erath County Vaccination Center officials announced recently that the center will no longer be offering first doses. The center will continue to provide second doses to those who received their first dose there. For more information, call (254) 459-5053.  At Tuesday s regular meeting of the Stephenville City Council, Fire Chief Jimmy Chew informed the council that plans are to shut down the center the first week of June, giving individuals enough time to make sure they receive their second dose. Those wanting to receive the vaccine, will still be able to through other pharmacies and healthcare facilities in the city.

Local voters to decide bond issues, school board positions

• Total in person early votes: 771 (When reviewing vote totals, note that everyone in the city of Stephenville is also in the Stephenville ISD.) On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In Erath County, voters can vote at any of the following locations, regardless of where they reside in Erath County: Erath County Courthouse, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville; or Dublin County Annex, 219 S. Grafton St., Dublin. City of Stephenville voters will decide on five proposed bond issues as well as two school board positions. While four positions are up for election on the Stephenville City Council, each place has had one candidate declare so an election will not be held. Those declaring for the positions include incumbents, Ricky Thurman in Place 5 and Gerald Cook in Place 7; and newcomers LeAnn Durfey in Place 1 and Daron Trussell in Place 3.
