Stephenville voters reject all 5 propositions; Evans, Elms elected to SISD board

Erath County voters let their voices be heard on Saturday, defeating all five propositions on the city of Stephenville ballot and electing new school board members for Stephenville and Dublin ISDs.
According to information from the Erath County Elections Office, of the 18,409 eligible voters, 2,335 total ballots were cast, for a voter turnout of 12.68%.
Results from the election are unofficial until they are canvassed by the appropriate governing board in the upcoming weeks.

Today is the day.
Months of campaigning, informational meetings and presentations will culminate as local voters get their final chance to head to the polls to decide a number of bond issues and elections across Erath County.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Erath County voters can vote at the following locations, regardless of where they live in the county: Erath County Courthouse, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville; or Dublin County Annex, 219 S. Grafton St., Dublin.
City of Stephenville voters will decide on five proposed bond issues as well as two school board positions.

On election day, polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. In Erath County, voters can vote at any of the following locations, regardless of where they reside in Erath County: Erath County Courthouse, 100 W. Washington St., Stephenville; or Dublin County Annex, 219 S. Grafton St., Dublin.

While four positions are up for election on the Stephenville City Council, each place has had one candidate declare so an election will not be held. Those declaring for the positions include incumbents, Ricky Thurman in Place 5 and Gerald Cook in Place 7; and newcomers LeAnn Durfey in Place 1 and Daron Trussell in Place 3.

As a former school superintendent and administrator, I have had the privilege to work with numerous board members in many different school districts. There are different levels of skills and knowledge that each board member brings to a board. That is why I am excited to see Dr. Sonia Sandford as a candidate for the Stephenville School Board. She has strong credentials and a passion for educating all students.
I think she will be an excellent board member because:
• She has taught at all grade levels and has been a teacher, coach and administrator. She knows and appreciates quality teaching.
