Many of Woodstockâs downtown businesses are in âdire straitsâ and some are even considering leaving the core, Oxford County council heard in a presentation this week by the cityâs business improvement area director.
The Downtown Woodstock BIA is looking for the county to âcome to the tableâ to help with solutions for the mental health, addictions and homelessness problems that plague the core and are affecting local businesses, said Virginia Armstrong, manager of the Downtown Woodstock BIA.

Oxford County paramedics have so far tested more than 16,000 people for COVID-19 and given vaccines to 1,7000 more, the service’s paramedic chief reported recently.
The update came as Oxford paramedics helped open a mass vaccination clinic in Tillsonburg on April 27. As it continues to scale up, the facility – one of three mass immunization clinics in the Southwestern Public Health region – will be able to provide more than 300 shots a day, Oxford County Parademics chief Ben Addley said during an update to Oxford County council.

When it was announced that golf courses were among the businesses that must close during the current provincial stay-at-home order, it didn’t go over very well with the golf industry.
Golf Ontario released a statement that they are lobbying the provincial government to allow courses to remain open.
Golf, they insist, is a safe activity due to the inherent physical distancing that takes place on the course as well as a form of physical exercise.
They also stress that the sport promotes mental health as people like to play for the challenge of the game as well as the serenity of getting out on the course.
