Pope praying for Bishop-elect of South Sudan after shooting attack
According to a Holy See Press Office statement Pope Francis was immediately informed of the attack against the bishop-elect of Rumbek, Fr Carlassare, on Sunday night and is praying for him.

Unknown armed men have shot and wounded the Bishop-elect of South Sudan’s Rumbek Catholic Diocese. The Italian-born Fr. Christian Carlassare, a Comboni Missionary, was attacked on Sunday night in Rumbek.
The gunmen went to his residence, shot at his bedroom door till it opened, and when Fr. Carlassare came out, they shot him on both legs.

RUMBEK, APRIL 27, 2021 (CISA)-24 suspects have been arrested in connection with the April 26 shooting of Rt. Rev. Christian Carlassare, the Bishop-elect of Catholic Diocese of Rumbek.
According to the Elijah Mabor, the Police Spokesperson in Rumbek Lakes States, those arrested include four priests and seven security guards at the bishop’s residence when the incidence occurred on Monday April 26 at about 2:00 am.
“All security organs are investigating the detained suspect in connection with incident which occurred at 2 am,” Mabor said.
“It’s a well secure place only that there are no soldiers deployed in that area; there are three concrete fences. The criminals sneaked until they reached the third fence where bishop lives,” Police spokes man said.

The Archbishop Emeritus of Juba Paulino Lukudu Loro has died at the age of 81.
A statement from the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba said he died at a hospital in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, yesterday morning.
The late had reportedly developed some health complications, and his health deteriorated in the past few days.
“His Grace Archbishop Paulino Lukudu Loro, a star that ceaselessly was shining over our church and nation for well over 30 years, has this morning flickered out in the Kenyan capital city Nairobi,” the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Juba, Stephen Ameyu Martin, announced yesterday.
