A new survey suggests that some unvaccinated people may not comply with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to continue wearing masks indoors. Most states in our region trail the national rate of people who are fully vaccinated.
Recently, the CDC announced new mask wearing guidelines: People who are fully vaccinated against the virus can remove their masks in most indoor and outdoor places.
Matt Motta is an assistant professor of political science at Oklahoma State. He said this is causing some trust issues between people.
“There was some concern that people who are not vaccinated or who are only partially vaccinated might choose not to wear a mask anyway,” he said.

Current Conditions:
There are currently no large wildfires burning in Utah. The state has initiated a few prescribed burns.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning from Wednesday morning, May 19 through Thursday night, May 20 in southwest Utah. A fire weather watch will also be in effect all day Friday, May 21. The warning is because of forecasted dry, windy conditions. Any fires that are started could spread quickly, outdoor fires are not recommended.
“The tickets are selling out very quickly,” said Gina Kerzman, a spokesperson for Glacier National Park.
Tickets for June have already been snatched up, but more may become available. Other national parks from Zion to Rocky Mountain are implementing a similar system.
Phil Francis is the chairman for the nonprofit Coalition to Protect America’s National Parks. He said it’s a good thing to manage visitation for parks across the Mountain West, especially during the pandemic.
“It s a better chance that people can maintain their social distance following the CDC guidelines. It provides for [a] better visitor experience, Francis said.
Renown Health To Close Its Drive-Thru COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic
Renown Health has announced that it will stop administering first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine next week at its drive-thru clinic in Reno. Wednesday will be the final day that people can visit the clinic for first doses. The clinic will continue operating until every person who received a first shot from the location has an opportunity to get their second one. The vaccine team at Renown has administered more than 73,000 doses.
Community members who are 16 and older can get the Pfizer vaccine at this location until Wednesday by making an appointment through MyChart. Walk-ins are allowed from noon to 2 p.m. PT. For questions, call 775-982-2781.
