(CNN) — The color of the ocean has changed significantly over the last 20 years and human-caused climate change is likely responsible, according to a new study.
Recent research revealed the role of ocean eddies in supplying nutrients in the ocean, especially for the phytoplankton which the researchers observed.
MIT researchers have found that eddies at the edges of subtropical ocean gyres deliver nutrients that sustain the phytoplankton within the gyres. The findings answer a longstanding question about how these microbes are able to survive.
