Of michigan, west virginia, indiana and oregon have issued stayathome orders for their entire states. That means more than 100 million americans, thats nearly 1 in 3, are now being told to stay home. But the president says he does not want to see this lockdown go much longer. America will again and soon be open for business, very soon. A lot sooner than three or four months that somebody was suggesting. A lot sooner. We cannot let the cure be worse than the problem. This is not a country that was built for this. It was not built to be shut down. Weve been talking about it for days. Obviously, when the country is in lockdown, the economy is too. And we are just starting to get an idea of how bad its going to be if the situation doesnt change economically. On monday, researchers from Morgan Stanley said they see Unemployment Rate going from a 50year low of less than 4 to an alltime high of nearly 13 by this spring. Of course, Business Owners and their employees are hoping the government

Americans filed a recordbreaking nearly 3. 3 million unemployment claims. Lets put that in perspective. That is, by far, the highest number weve ever seen. Nearly five times the previous record set back in 1982 when it was just under 700,000. But this morning, the fed chairman Jerome Powell gave a very rare interview on the today show and said he expects the economy to recover quickly. At a certain point, we will get the spread of the virus under control, and at that time, confidence will return, businesses will open again, people will come back to work. So you may well see, you know, significant rises in unemployment, significant declines in economic activity, but there can also be a good rebound on the other side of that. And thats actually one of the main things were trying to do by assuring the flow of credit in the economy and keeping rates low is to assure that rebound when it does come is as impactful. The vote was unanimous, how about that bipartisanship. 960. Next it goes to t

Rising. More than 69,000 americans have now lost their lives. Nearly 1. 2 million weve known to be infected. But as i said, new projections show those numbers could skyrocket in the coming months. A draft government report obtained by the New York Times and confirmed by nbc news projects up to 200,000 new cases a day by the end of may. It also projects roughly 3,000 deaths a day. At the very same time, a model out of the university of washington is now doubling its previous estimations of the death toll. It now shows a possible 134,000 deaths by early august. Earlier estimations had assumed restrictions would stay in place longer but new models accounts for states reopening. Dr. Anthony fauci says it is a tradeoff. Its the balance of something thats a very difficult choice. How many deaths and how much suffering are you willing to accept to get back to what you want to be some form of normality sooner rather than later. Thats a lot to take in. Weve got reporters spread across the count

Close to 82,000. The number of coronavirus cases is nearly 1. 4 million. On monday, the president claimed victory in terms of access to testing, a key aspect in reopening the country safely. He also repeated the claim that anyone that needs a test can get one. That claim is not true. In terms of sheer numbers, the United States tested 400,000 people yesterday. That is far short of the 5 million daily tests that the president predicted six weeks ago. He said 5 million tests, were getting 400,000. The president also claimed that the number of cases are, quote, coming down rapidly all over the country. But that statement from our president is also false. Nbc has obtained an unreleased white house report showing cases spiking in the middle of the heartland of our country, in metro areas like nashville, des moines and amarillo, texas. All of this will play into todays very big hearing. I want to go to Garrett Haake on capitol hill. This is one of the most unusual and consequential hearings

House democrats may have descended into pure faxalism, but the United States senate must not. This is the only body that can consider all factors presented by the house. Decide what has or has not been proven, and choose what outcome best serves the nation. This, mr. President , is what we must do. But heres a question. Will those factors that mcconnell mentioned include newly released documents and Text Messages from Rudy Giulianis indicted associate, lev parnas, who appears to have been a middleman for President Trumps attorney, giuliani, and ukranian president zelenskys inner circle. Parnas drawing a Straight Line from his work in the ukraine to our administration, not just giuliani. Secretary of state mike pompeo, attorney general bill barr, Vice President mike pence, and of course, president donald j. Trump himself. President trump knew exactly what was going on, he was aware of all my movements. I wouldnt do anything without consent that Rudy Giuliani or the president. Kristin we
