Models Wrong Again: Hotter Weather Not Diminishing Runoff, River Discharge ! – Watts Up With That?

These results are somewhat in contrast to climate projections, where runoff is expected to decrease only over southern Europe.

Models Wrong Again: Hotter Weather Not Diminishing Runoff And River Discharge

Scientists, using data from satellites, are finding out that a mildly warming climate isn't diminishing river runoff as models projected.

Runoff: not as you might think

ESA - Runoff: not as you might think

Runoff and river discharge are important components in Earth’s water cycle, but as climate change tightens its grip, heatwaves and instances of drought are increasingly hitting the headlines. One would assume that this hotter weather leads to reduced water runoff, but an innovative way of using information from satellites suggests that this isn’t always the case.

ESA - Winners presented with ESA-EGU Excellence award

Winners presented with ESA-EGU Excellence award The winners of the first ESA-EGU Excellence Award were awarded their prizes earlier today at the virtual EGU General Assembly ceremony, attended by ESA’s Director General, Josef Aschbacher and ESA’s Acting Director of Earth Observation Programmes, Toni Tolker-Nielsen. In late 2020, ESA and the European Geosciences Union (EGU), opened a competition for two awards in Earth observation excellence. The awards are aimed towards researchers in the early phases of their career who have made an outstanding contribution to the innovative use of Earth observation data primarily from European satellites. Two types of awards were advertised: a team and an individual award.
