pensacola, florida. the temperature there was in the 40s. it didn t stick very long but it was pretty. made for a pretty picture across the region. all right. the reason we saw the snow in the south is two-fold. one we had the huge storm across the mid-atlantic earlier in the week. in the wake of that, much colder air dropped down to the south. so we had the stage set for the cold air in place really far south, all the way to the gulf coast. but this is the el nino storm pattern that tends to be a steering system for the wet winter in the southeast and the west. you can see the moisture brings heavy rain through southern california and texas. then when a storm gets going into the gulf, it taps into the warm moist air and when the air gets warm enough, you get snow. unusual for these things to come together at the same time, but they sure did. another place that has seen a lot more snow is washington, d.c. i want to show you a live picture of the nation s capitol. you re looking at the
